The Elf Queen & the King Book 2 (Ruin Mist Tales, Book 2)
Published in Paperback by Reagent Press (May, 2002)
Author: Robert Stanek
Average review score:

Extremely intruiging world and characters
I found this second book to be one of the best science fiction / fantasy novels ever written. Robert Stanek develops his characters so well. I enjoyed every moment that I spent reading. I did not want to do anything else but read this book. I thought the previous book was one of the best I had ever read until I read this. This is the BEST! Keep reading!

The best I read on 2002
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is beautifuly written and puts you in the scene. I truly felt for these fictional characters. Their stories became like my own. It is fantasy but seemed so real. I was rooting for them all, and the ending is very satisfying.

2nd book doesn't disappoint!
The characters come alive! The authors heroes are heroic and the villains are just starting to be revealed for what they are. The political intrigue mixed in with already great plots makes this excellent reading and adds depth to already great story. Like I said before if you like to get so wrapped up in a book that you can't wait to get back to read some more, this is the one for you. Every time you think you've figured out what's next, things change. I love it!

The real gold of nutrition & good health, mined & refined!
As a professional nutritional consultant, I write a two page monthly newsletter and am in awe of the consistent high quality of what Dr. Ronzio has given us. In my efforts to distill pertinent material for the busy doctor from books and scientific articles, I have many reference and text books to further consult from. I invariably look to Dr. Ronzio's Encyclopedia on Nutrition and Good Health for integrity, clarity and depth of understanding in objective and concise terminology. Like the other reviewers of this enclyclopedia on nutrition and good health, I find it a very valuable and useful source.

I highly recommend that nutritional health professionals obtain two reference copies, one for their immediate use and the other as their waiting room copy. Its inviting manner with immediately usable information allows for a better educated patient with even a better chance of getting well.

I also recommend Dr. Ronzio's Enclylopedia to anyone having difficulty explaining the nature of good nutrition to the rest of the family. He adeptly addresses and clarifies much of the bogus nutritional information in today's terms and settings in a very easy to find and read format.

Thank you, Dr. Ronzio, for all your dedicated hard work to provide The Encyclopedia of Nutrition and Good Health.

An excellent resource for professionals and consumers.

Exploring the Lusitania: Probing the Mysteries of the Sinking That Changed History
Published in Hardcover by Warner Books (October, 1995)
Authors: Robert D. Ballard and Spencer Dunmore
Average review score:

A definitive book on the ill-fated Lusitania
Not only are all the facts, both past and present, contained here...but the sensitive, intelligent narrative of Robert Ballard and artwork of Ken Marschall make this a delightful book to read, peruse or simply decorate your coffee table. Works like these could make even the most jittery of sailors want to apply to the Woods Hole Institute!

great book

Amazing, simply Amazing!
In 8th grade, I had to do a research project on the RMS Lusitania. No book helped more then Ballard's. I practically read the book 5 times over, some times just for fun. I must say that Dr. Ballard got me interested in shipwrecks.

The book was an excellent source of information. And Ballard's unique writing style brought it all together. He writes about real people on the doomed liner. We see the world through their eyes. This makes the sinking come alive and become so much more real. This book becomes an excellent study tool or just a pleasure read.

I must also praise the artist, who painted the pictures in the book. They are amazing! I had to do a double-take on just about every picture, they look so real!

After my project, I had to return the book to the library. I wanted to by it online but was disappointed to find that it is out of stock. I'm delited on having this book, I love it. Dr. Ballard really has a gift, he brings the world closer to our lost ships then we could ever get on our own! Exploring the Lusitania is simply Amazing!

The Fool Lieutenant
Published in Paperback by Meadowlark Publishing, Inc. (18 December, 2000)
Authors: Robert Edlin, Margo Heinen, and Marcia Moen
Average review score:

READ THIS BOOK!
A very important insight into the life of a soldier in WW2. Lieutenant Edlin saw and lived to tell about some absolutely amazing things. From being wounded twice on D-day to accepting the surrender of the Graf Spee battery, Lt. Edlin's story keeps you riveted!

Lt. Bob Edlin, Ranger Hero
Reviewer, Gordon E Mercer Ph.D. Professor of Political Science and Public Affairs and Director of the Public Policy Institute, Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, North Carolina I couldn't put it down! Have you ever heard of someone turning down the Congressional Medal of Honor? This is exactly what Bob Edlin did during WWII after it was explained to him that accepting the honor would mean he would have to leave his unit and return home. As the war progresses, Lt. Edlin's small unit of four is assigned to gather intelligence on the Graff Spree Battery on the Brest peninsula, a major German Fort of strategic importance to the Germans. The Fort needed to be taken since the guns from the Fort could fire in any direction with devestating consequences. How does Lt. Edlin lead a small unit to capture over 850 Germans? Lt. Edlins unit of four reached the area of Graff Spree Batery and.......well, the rest as they say is history! It is also an exciting story about a real American hero! Bob Edlin earned his nickname "Fool Lieutenant" for daring, courage and risk taking. One cannot fail to notice however Edlin's voice of reason and hope throughout WWII as well. He saves the lives of men, gets mine blasted in the process and then proceeds to break orders by leaving the hospital early. This is a story of greatness and courage while victory and defeat hang in the balance. Edlin continues his fight for freedom on the home front when the war ends and he returns to civilian life. Captain Edlin, now in the Reserve, tries to integrate the Army Reserve and is fought up and down the line by bureaucracy and high ranking officers. Throughout the book you will read about raw courage! The author's Marcia Moen and Margo Heinen are to be commended for telling this story. They did an excellent job of capturing the spirit of Bob Edlin! It is only a matter of time before this book is made into a movie and in reading this book as a Professor, I think you are probably reading a book that is headed for a major movie!

Ranger GOD
Marc Maxwell, AUG 26, 2001, Ranger GOD: Robert Edlin This is one of the finest books I have ever read. Mr. (Ranger) Robert Edlin's story is one of true heroics. This personal account of D-Day and WWII through the eyes of a well decorated 2nd Battalion Army Ranger is one that should be read by any one that wants to know what it means to be a Ranger and how these men fought with strength and nerve through one of America's defining wars. Mr. Edlin, is what all Ranger's aspire to be and along with the men and women of this era, they are what America should love. RLTW

The Earth Will Shake
Published in Hardcover by J. P. Tarcher (January, 1983)
Author: Robert Anton Wilson
Average review score:

Dear Bob, why have you abandoned us?
Robert Anton Wilson has proven to be capable of extraordinary talent with this series. Mixing fiction with non-fiction he weaves one of the most satisfying yarns published. The Earth Will Shake, The Widows Son and Natures God are a type of writing that I had previously not encountered through Wilson. This series is actually very inspiring, and written in such a dramatic way I am convinced it would make a most excellent movie. But, at the end of the series, the reader sees reference to the fourth book "The World Turned Upside Down", and alas, it is non-existant. Whatever reason Bob has for abandoning us devout readers of this series (I have read all three books three times and stolen much wit and demeanor from them) I urge you, dear Bob, please don't leave us hanging! Your Friend, Joey Bridges

The best of Wilson
This series of books I believe is the best thing that Wilson has ever done, and he still hasn't finished it yet. I believe that he might not be either. This series of books sparked off my interest in history and actually made it fun to peek between the edges of history and find some of the most interesting figures. I have to admit that this series changed my reality-tunnel (as Wilson calls it). This book is something of a coming-of-age story that has a similar feel to Araby, the short story in James Joyce's book "Dubliners." As he is a big fan of Joyce's, it may not be unintentional. The second is the action-adventure book, and the third is the more spiritual side. All of them have these elements, but the strong themes stuck out for me as I just detailed. After you read this series, research it...it is amazing what you find. So much of this is true that it is staggering that Wilson pulled all this together. Plus, the Masonic initiation scene is very true to reality that you wonder how he got away with writing about it.

The Illuminatii illuminated
The Historical Illuminatus Trilogy is Robert Anton Wilson at his most poetic. Combining the essential elements of his other works, (religion, politics, intrigue, mind-control, and the supposed differences between them) he weaves a tale of dashing and daring adventure, describing the growing pains of a young man destined to change the world, mostly against his own desires. Set amidst a vast backdrop of historical events, such as the French, Irish & American revolutions, scientific progress & religious intolerence, with a delightful dollop of sex 'n' drugs 'n' classical music, it's a wonderful series that beautifully suggests, if not illustrate clearly, how we have come to live in the world we see around us. The eternal question of what is good and evil is eloquently dealt with in these glorious books. Read, enjoy, devour the wisdom of R. A. Wilson, and he WILL change your life. Forever. And that is a very long time!

An Education for Our Time
Published in Hardcover by Regnery Publishing, Inc. (August, 1998)
Authors: Josiah, Iii Bunting, General Josiah Bunting, and Robert Parkman
Average review score:

A Clever Look at the Future of American Education
Josiah Bunting takes a unique approach to the problems of American education and society in general. A millionaire philanthropist has left funds for the creation of his "dream college".Concerned with the training of mind, body, and soul, this college has as its' main goal the creation of disinterested servants of the nation. I can't praise this book enough. As a teacher, I particularly liked the chapter entitled "Who Shall Lead Them"? The ideas about what defines effective teaching and engaged learning will inspire all teachers even if Generlal Bunting's college never becomes a reality.

Fascinating and challenging
Bunting uses the incredibly wonderful "letters" of a billionaire and the "writer" to outline a wonderful vision of what education could be. Because it's embedded in a story, Bunting is able to be much stronger than he might have been able to be in others forms.

This book is both challenging and great to read. I highly recommend it!

A Book for Our Time
Josiah Bunting has written an incredibly thought provoking book on higher education. If you are a parent about to send your child to a Ivy League school, read this book...and weep. This is not the education that your child will receive.

Engaging The Enemy
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (May, 2003)
Author: Nora Roberts
Average review score:

2 great classic stories
These are reprints of earlier category romance novels. Both are very good. Both feature slightly antagonistic relationships where the hero and heroine start at as enemies. Nora Roberts is especially good at the volatile chemistry between these kinds of couples. The first book, A Will and a Way forces 2 people to stay in a mansion together to win an inheritance. Despite the fact that the heroine is named Pandora, this is a very good story. It has a slight bit of suspense as the other relatives try to force them out of the mansion so they lose the inheritance. The second book, Boundary Lines, is also very good. Jillian inherits her grandfather's ranch and tries to keep feuding with Aaron Murdock. This novel also features a slight bit of suspense, however the chemistry between the two main characters is what makes this story shine! These are both good light reading, perfect for summer.

Another Nora Roberts' Classic
This book features two of Nora Robert's older romance novels but they still show why she is such a great writer. Both novels start out with the hero and heroine on opposite sides facing danger and predictably end up with them both falling for each other.

A will and A Way- features Michael and Pandora, two people who are given a fortune by their recently departed relative. Unfortunately, there is a catch- they have to reside in the mansion together for 6 months to claim their inheritance. Sounds easy! But Michael and Pandora have always been at odds since they were teens and their jealous other relatives (who want their inheritance) try to make them leave the mansion and forfeit their claim.

Boundary Lines- Jillian and Aaron are neighboring ranchers who must battle the dangers of ranching while some unknown people who are stealing their cattle. Jillian, of course, thinks its Aaron and that fact is heightened by the fact that their two families are lifelong enemies.

Both novels are great summer reads- Enjoy

2 Classic Nora's in one book!
"A Will and a Way" Two "enemies" are co-beneficiaries of a large estate. Their friends and family will do almost anything to scare them off so that they break the terms of the will. They must live togeather in a large remote house for for 6 months. What is at stake 150 million, and other considerations. Nora brings both characters to life with her usual style and wonderful touch.

"Boundary Lines," The second story in the book about to ranching families that have been feuding for generations. The problem is the next two "rulers" of ranches, can decide if they want to hit each other or kiss. A classic Nora republished from their original "Silhouette" version.

Both of these storys (in one book) are a wonderful read! I highly recommend them if you are a fan of Nora Roberts writing! Definately worth the read.

The Fifty Minute Hour: A Collection of True Psychoanalytic Tales
Published in Paperback by Other Press, LLC (01 October, 1999)
Authors: Robert Mitchell Lindner and Jonathan Lear
Average review score:

Interesting in light of the "K-PAX" craze!
This book is particularly interesting in light of Gene Brewer's novel (and now film) "K-PAX", based on "The Jet-Propelled Couch" episode in this book. In this episode, we meet the original model for prot -- not a homeless person, but a respected scientist. Conjecture has it that he may have been science fiction writer Cordwainer Smith. In any event the story is fascinating, and Lindner writes in a clear, mature and intelligent style. Well worth it!

The paths of psychotherapy
I have been doing psychotherapy for years and always find it fascinating to see how childhood experiences lead to the development of problems. There are lots of books about the theories, but the actual cases always seem much more striking to me. This book is fun to read if you are interested in looking at these kind of connections. I wish there were more books about this, but the subject seems to be out of vogue these days although people still have as many psychogenic problems as ever. I don't particularly like the books that make case material like this too artistic and flowery; this book describes the characters to the point. The examples part of "The Road Less Traveled" was also good in the same way.

A Classic
I read the "The Fifty Minute Hour" in the 1960's and was particularly impressed by the chapter "The Jet Propelled Couch." In the mid 1990's I was telling my teenage daughter about the chapter and we went out and bought the book to see if dad remembered correctly. I did and she enjoyed the book as much as I did. It is a classic. I believe the scientist in "The Jet Propelled Couch" was at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The "Fifty Minute" comes from Freud. He advised therapists to reserve ten minutes to cool down after a session with a patient and to prepare for the next patient. In this post-Freudian era patients are seen back-to-back and the hour is fifty minutes to increase revenue, not to cool down. In fact the hour is now down to 40 minutes and even 30 with some doctors!

Unfortunately Lindner's next book "Prescription for Rebellion" as I remember was a dud. Really disappointing let down after the FMH.

One of the essentials for all hockey players and coaches
This book covers all of the basics very well. Essential reading material for any level of hockey player and coach. I have read it over and over again.

The best book on hockey ever!
When I wanted to improve my game I asked people around for the best book to get. They recommended this one and after seeing myself improve I recomend it to.

the single best source for the coach, player or fan of the game
from basic conditioning to advanced play development, this book will help the coach bring his players up a level. the player reading it will see improvement in their game. the drills are explained in a clear manor and will definately improve the ability of the player. the section on play making is outstanding. when teaching some of the plays to my bantam and midget players, it was like a light bulb went on in their heads when they caught on to the play. this is a must have book for any one involved in the game of hockey.
